Accuracy & Precision - Part 11 - Ceramic Syringe for Liquid Transfer in Clinical Chemistry Analyzers

In last few blogs, we have discussed many things about various components, which plays important role to ensure accurate & precise results in clinical chemistry analyzer. How we forget the central role played by syringe for accurate & precise transfer of liquid (sample & reagent) volumes in clinical chemistry analyzer.

Two Types of Components Used for Liquid Transfer
Basically there are two types of components used for transfer of sample & reagent, as mentioned below.

  • Diluter Unit – Accurate & precise, price very high, costly & difficult to maintain
  • Syringes – Accurate & precise, comparatively low price, easy to maintain

Three Types of Syringes Used in Clinical Chemistry Analyzers
Three different kinds of syringes are used in majority of clinical chemistry analyzers, as mentioned below.

  1. Syringe with Rubber Tip
This syringe is commercially very economic but rubber tip will get degrade with time & start losing accurate & precise transfer of sample & reagent.
  2. Syringe with Metal Piston & Ceramic Tip
To overcome the disadvantage of rubber tip, this syringe is equipped with ceramic tip (instead of rubber tip). As syringe continuously remain in touch with liquid, metal piston is subject to corrosion, so this syringe will also start losing accurate & precise transfer of sample & reagent, with time.
  3. Syringe with Permanent Ceramic Piston (Including Tip)
Ceramic is known for not losing its properties and robustness, while continuously working with liquid. So, this syringe overcomes both the disadvantages of rubber tip & metal piston.

Why Ceramic Piston Syringe is the Best Choice
Syringe with permanent ceramic piston (including tip) can transfer sample & reagent for very long period of time, that to with accuracy & precision. This syringe can accurately transfer liquid with increment step of just 0.1 uL.

Beacon group of companies are offering full range of clinical chemistry analyzers having throughput of 100, 200, 400 and 800 tests / hour. All these analyzers are equipped with robust syringe having permanent ceramic piston (including tip).
