Advance Cuvette Washing Protocol in Clinical Chemistry Analyzers | Accuracy & Precision - Part 7

Majority of fully automatic clinical chemistry analyzers having throughput of 200, 400, 800 tests / hour, are equipped with permanent cuvettes and on-board washing station.

• On board 2x4 or 2x6 steps washing station, wash all reaction cuvettes followed by automatic cleaning and drying.
• Daily / routine / weekly wash protocol to wash cuvettes with “DI-Water” & “Detergent”.
• Each cuvette is washed and reused plenty of times.

It is very important to ensure that on-board washing station is washing cuvettes “Effectively”. Especially when few reagents like picric acid (of creatinine) and sticky nature of latex particles used in turbidimetry tests (RF, ASO, CRP). Repeated and regular use of these tests (Creatinine, RF, ASO, CRP) will decrease the transparency of reaction cuvettes, which reduces the accuracy and precision of results. 
So, additional number of wash / hard wash of cuvettes are required, after performing these tests to ensure accurate and precise results as well as prolonged life of each reaction cuvette. 

As we have discussed in “Part 3” of these blogs, some advance fully auto clinical chemistry analyzers are equipped with “Carry-Over Evasion Program”. This evasion program played very important role to ensure accurate results by applying additional pre-wash & post-wash of cuvettes. Even this program will have features to reduce impact of interference of various reagents.
